Pitt Food Rescues with Food Recovery Heroes – November 15-18, Various Times & Locations

Participate in a hands-on social entrepreneurship activity led by Food Recovery Heroes (FRN), Pitt’s chapter of the Food Recovery Network! FRN unites university students to fight food waste and hunger by recovering surplus food from campus dining locations and redistributing it to local organizations. FRH’s main goal is to give back and help lessen food insecurity in the Oakland community.

During Global Entrepreneurship Week, Pitt students have the opportunity to assist Food Recovery Heroes in their food rescues by either 1) recovering excess food from Forbes Street Market and transporting it to the Pitt Pantry or 2) wrapping surplus food from Einstein’s and Pitt cafes that will be donated to various organizations in Oakland.

The Pitt food recoveries will be taking place at these locations on the following days/times during Global Entrepreneurship Week:

  • November 16, 4:00 P.M. – Forbes Street Market
  • November 18, 3:00 P.M. – Posvar Loading Dock

Students must join Food Recovery Heroes’ emailing list to sign up for one of these four recoveries. Additionally, students must watch an assigned food safety video, sign the food safety declaration form, and complete a video comprehension quiz prior to arriving for their scheduled shift.

If you have any questions, please email foodrecoveryheroes@gmail.com.
